ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

GOAL:

CREATE EFFICIENT, WELL-DESIGNED BUSINESS AND EMPLOYMENT CENTERS.

Objectives:

a. Provide a generous supply of developable or redevelopable land for industrial, office, and commercial land uses.

b. Identify strategic locations for high quality industrial and office developments.

c. Discourage unplanned, incremental strip commercial development along major community entryways.

d. Upgrade signage, landscaping, site design, and related development standards for existing commercial, office, and industrial development areas.

e. Provide necessary municipal services such as sanitary sewer, municipal water, and stormwater management facilities to strategic Village growth areas.

f. Avoid premature development at key development locations identified by this Plan until detailed neighborhood plans have been prepared for those areas and approved by the Village.

g. Encourage the creation of highly planned, mixed-use centers that include employment, shopping, housing, and recreation opportunities in a compact, pedestrian-oriented setting.

h. Promote the concept of development “paying its own way”.

GOAL:

ENHANCE THE VILLAGE OF COTTAGE GROVE BUSINESS DISTRICTS.

Objectives: a. Strengthen the retail power of established commercial areas by discouraging new strip commercial developments on the Village's fringes.

b. Enhance the aesthetic quality of Cottage Grove business districts.

c. Encourage infill development on underutilized or blighted commercial properties.
